Women’s Health Fair
On March 19, 2010, New Mexico AIDS Services is hosting a health fair for women and girls in observance of Women and Girls’ HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The theme of the fair is “Healthy and Beautiful: a Day of Pampering and Education for Women.”
The fair will be located at the Main Branch of the Albuquerque Public Library in the large community room downstairs, on Friday, March 19th, from 10:30am-2:30pm. The library is located at 501 Copper NW (Copper and 5th).
National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day seeks to raise awareness of the increasing impact of HIV/AIDS on the lives of women and girls. Since we know that HIV is not an isolated health concern, we are planning a day that considers women as whole people with a variety of interrelated health needs. The fair will be free to all women and girls who wish to attend, and there will be a variety of “pampering” services available, including haircuts, chair massage, etc, which will also be free. We will be giving out a copy of the women’s health book, Our Bodies, Ourselves, to the first 60 participants, and are planning a raffle.
Free, anonymous, oral swab HIV testing will be available, as well as free, confidential syphilis and hepatitis C screening. Free hepatitis A and B vaccines will also be provided. $10 will be given to the first 40 women tested for Syphilis. We will be offering a few educational workshops throughout the day.
Every woman will get a free raffle ticket for one of the three raffles happening during the day, and the first 60 women will also get a free copy of Our Bodies, Ourselves, an educational women’s health book.
